Painted Designs

How do you take all the Painted Designs out of your head, and begin to put them on paper?

Surrounded by paint colors, paint brushes, and my good friend, business partner, and pal Dawn, our goal was to work out some of the patterns we will be using for our custom projects.  How do we do it?  We just start painting, talking, and soon an idea turns into a design, which then hits the paper, which then becomes our sample. The paints are mixed, and the brushes are going, and hopefully we are not groaning.  Well, there was some groaning.  Taping to get the lines perfect, lining up the colors and then realizing that it just was not right.  This did produce a few groans.  Supplemented with some good coffee, laughs, and chitchat, we create the designs so you have choices.

Hung Out To Buy has products  that we transform from a scrap of unfinished wood into a pretty painted peg rack, personalized letters, or a nice sturdy shelf.  Our patterns, although shown in specific colors, can be matched with any decor.  We give you the colors and designs you want.  We can match with your color scheme and assist you in choosing what colors & designs will work best for your room.

Here are some of our favorites from today.  In the next week will be adding  more to our “Wall” page.  With just the right products and patterns, we can customize our very own Painted Designs.

Which ones are your favorite Painted Designs?

What About This?

What About This?

What about this?

Move all your kids into one room and free up that precious real estate in your home. I know my boys would not be in favor of that. Just the question would have them making faces. I have no idea what the sleeping arrangements are at your house, but I could sure use one of these. Currently, of my five children, four are living at home.  Every available room allows each child to have their own room.  As I wandered in the wee morning hours to check on each child, I began to ponder the idea of just bunking them all up.  The three boys anyway.  My one and only girl might not go for sharing with three boys, so she can stay put…or not.  She occupies the largest of the bedrooms. It would be some major room changing.  But, by putting all three boys in one room, just think of the decorating and designing I could do with the two extra rooms.

I have raised all my kids to be respectful of each others’ space. They each have their own private space. There they can be assured that their treasures, toys, books, and special things will not be taken or played with by another.  Is this a good thing?  When I was growing up I had a friend named Heidi.  She had nine sisters and brothers (more sisters).  They had a big room, and on two walls they had lined up:  bed, five-drawer chest, bed, five-drawer chest, etc. If my memory serves me right, there were a total of three beds and chests lined up on one wall and then the same on the opposite wall.

Why do we fashion rooms for our children as private quarters?  I personally LOVE having my own space and I believe that our children need that too. Especially after being in school with people all day, all my children find a their rooms to be a retreat.  I imagine in most cases we can afford the space.  I see that I can afford the space, but it’s at the cost of some valuable real estate.  I would love to have a guest room, a study room, a room that I have the option to think about how it might be used.  If I really had my way I would have one of these. (see below)  Then I would have four rooms and imagine if I wanted to take an early cross country trip. No one has to get out of bed!

The following picture would be my personal ideal. I love that each bed has its’ own light and some kind of shelf built in.  This frees up the floor for what…?  How do your kids sleep?  What about this kind of set up do you like? How many kids occupy your valuable real estate?  If you have some pictures to share of your space, link in the comment space below.

Whoooooo Loves Owls?

Whoooooo loves Owls?  After yesterday, I can say without a doubt that Dawn and I love owls.  We have worked on how we want our design to look and coordinate with our collections.  Something fun, whimsical, interesting, balanced and did I mention visually  fun.  So together, we started cutting, painting, and cutting again and finding all of the elements that make these guys part of your child’s room and very much part of our offering in our collections.

I know it is silly to give inanimate objects special names, but we did.   Each owl carries the name of the collection it is designed to go with.  We are offering two options for purchase.  (printed poster or Canvas in an 11″x14″ size.)   If you are interested in one of these pieces, send us an email and we will give you all the specifics.  We are not quite ready to start selling yet, just creating, designing and shall we say wisely placing some teasers for whooooo ever might be interested..Whoooooo Loves Owls?

Whooooooo is your favorite. Let us know your thoughts or email if you have any questions.

Designing With Crazy

Designing With Crazy, really only means that it’s crazy how many patterns, prints, and accents are gathered in my office and coming together.  My office is not a fancy office.  It has to be functional for many levels of working.

Several years ago, I had what I called my “cheater” office.  One that was fancifully designed and arranged for clients, neat as a pin, and one that gave an impression of “oohs & ahs.”  Then, I had a second office on the back wing of my home which was where the piles, papers, prints, patterns, paints, and fabrics were located.  It was a crazy, mad science kind of workspace.  That is what my office is like today. There are no “cheater” offices today.  Too many kids, and every room is used as a sleeping space for my children.

As I spread out the fabrics and get the cutting started, I realize how much fun this is. I hope that you will check back often to follow our Designing with Crazy.

Pink, Always A Favorite

Pink will always be a favorite… when it comes to girls.  Why?  Perhaps that rebellion we all had as our mothers had to wrestle us into those pink dresses and hair bands.  We revolted to think that we would ride our bikes with pink tassels, and  many of us pulled the hair band out the minute we turned a corner.  Then one day, those pink little toes, pink little squishy faces and that pink little newborn body we hold for the first time redefines pink.

Our hues go up on the walls, the bedding chosen, and the glass dish that  contains  hair bows with pink accents. Our own little girls now sporting the fashions we once wore and they too rebel against what we choose to dress them in. They will grow up and over the generations pink will still win out.

My youngest clients, little girls from around the age of four on up would always choose the pink rooms.  Mom might cringe, daddy would smile, and together they would say, “we told her she could choose”.  Pink now fills the places and spaces of many little girls. My little girl is all grown. I too allowed her to choose her own room.  She wanted pink.  She was the little girl I had to wrestle with on those days when I wanted her to look pristine.  As we work on building our website and developing rooms that your children will love, we will take time this next month to share some of those rooms of the past.

Here is my daughter’s room.  She chose every single piece.  I was not so fond of the furniture, but she loved it.  Together this was her favorite place.  In the next day or two I will find her room not so pristine, but for now here is a peak from yesterdays past.

Keep in mind that digital cameras were not even thought of when this   picture was taken.  An example of some of our custom work, note the window treatment. We will be offering this valance custom to match  your child’s place or space, in prints and fabrics for both boys and girls.  We’d love to feature some of your pinkest rooms.  Email us some of your favorites and we may feature you on our “Customer Favorites” Page.
